Poetry in lines and colors

This week's Illustration Friday topic Myth suggested me to take out from the drawer this very old piece (1982, I think) which I titled Proteus. The old sea-divinity of the Greek mythology who knows everything about present, past and future and is capable of changing form and aspect to escape inquiries  is here a sort of modern dancer or ice skater. Hiding his face with a mask he tries to run away to avoid answering questions, but who is chasing him?

this is one of my illustrations winner of the third prize in an Italian Children books Illustration Competition called " La Casa della Fantasia 2011". The topic of the competition was the 150th Anniversary of Italian unification. The title of this illustration is “24 th June 1859” , the date of  the battle in San Martino which took place during the second Italian Independence War. The technique is a mixed media, acrylic and collage on paper. Hope you like it!

This week's Illustration Friday topic suggested me this illustration, which is included in the Sketchbook I am preparing to participate to the Sketchbook Project 2012. By 31st January 2012 my 16-illustrations-sketchbook will leave Italy to join the other thousands sketchbooks from all over the world in the Brooklyn Art Library in New York. From April 2012 all sketchbooks will begin an exciting World Tour... keep in touch for the tour dates...
